So, as the title says, I’ve been dreaming about my ex lately. A little backstory: we dated before Covid hit, and it was a long-distance relationship. We had plans to meet in 2020, but then lockdown happened.
The relationship itself wasn’t good. He was really abusive and toxic, and I finally ended things in late 2021.
Lately, though, I keep having dreams about him. In these dreams, I’m always trying to break up with him or get away from him. They’re short, but I wake up feeling anxious and unsettled because of everything that happened between us.
I don’t know why this is happening now or what it means.
Dreaming about an ex, especially one tied to negative memories, often reflects unresolved emotions or lingering psychological effects of the relationship. Even if you’ve moved on consciously, your subconscious mind might still be processing the trauma or trying to protect you from repeating similar experiences.
Recurring Themes of Breaking Up or Escaping:
These dreams may symbolize your desire to assert independence and heal fully. They can also be a reflection of the emotional strength you showed by leaving the relationship, reminding you of that triumph.
Anxiety Upon Waking:
The emotional spike you feel upon waking likely ties to unresolved fears or memories. It’s a natural reaction to past trauma resurfacing in your subconscious.
Timing of the Dreams:
Dreams like these can be triggered by stress, major life changes, or even just random reminders of the past. If you’ve been reflecting on your personal growth or relationships lately, that could stir up old memories in your dreams.
